Rescue dogs living with us...
In July 2023, we took in three older dogs that are directly related to our dogs from a kennel situation where the breeder had passed away three years prior. The caretaker for those last three years, while well-meaning, was unfamiliar with the grooming and care that these Cairn terriers required.
We had them to our veterinarian for health checks and vaccinations. They have been dewormed and placed on a better diet.
They were in desperate need of grooming and other basic care. We bathed, cut of mats, and brushed out what remained. They had fleas and required treatment to get rid of those. They are wearing collars with name tags for the first time in a VERY long time. They still look pretty rough, but they are very happy little dogs and are loving the attention they are getting.
They are just now learning about walking on a leash and sleeping indoors in a crate. Yes, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
Unfortunately, none of these three are housetrained or able to be housed with other companions, due to their history as outdoor kennel dogs. Chase and Poppy are bonded to each other, and Bic is in love with his rubber ball.
(I know, now, where Bonny gets her OCD passion for Clifford!)
For the foreseeable future, we plan to keep them here as retired pensioners.
Welcome to our Bonny's father, Bic, aka Critterkin's Fire in the Hole at High Meadows,
and Bonny's littermate sister, Poppy, aka High Meadow's Firecracker,
and welcome to Magaidh's father, Chase, aka Uptown Straight Up No Chaser.
